In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
