The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
