The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
