And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 We glorify God." 166 What, would they then say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
