The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
