The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
