And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed. 130 But whenever good came to them, they said: "Ours is this." And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Musa (Moses) and those with him. Be informed! Verily, their evil omens are with Allah but most of them know not. 131 And they said: Whatever sign you may bring to us to charm us with it-- we will not believe in you. 132 So We let loose upon them the flood and the locusts, the lice and the frogs, the blood, distinct signs; but they waxed proud and were a sinful people. 133 And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel." 134 But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word! 135 We therefore took revenge from them; so We drowned them in the sea for they used to deny Our signs and were ignoring them. 136 We gave the persecuted nation dominion over the eastern and western lands which We had blessed. So the Word of your Lord, the finest, was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience; and We destroyed the edifices, and towers of Pharaoh and whatsoever they manufactured. 137 We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols they had. They said: "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said: "Surely ye are a people without knowledge. 138 "These people and their ways will surely be destroyed, for false is what they practise. 139 He said, "Is it other than Allah I should desire for you as a god while He has preferred you over the worlds?" 140 We delivered you from Pharaoh's people, who afflicted you with dreadful torment, slaying your male children and sparing only your daughters. That was surely a great trial for you by your Lord." 141
