The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
