Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My worshipers and 29 enter My Paradise! 30
