Said Firaun to the court members around him, “He is indeed an expert magician.” 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 to mobilise all skilled magicians." 37 So the magicians were brought together on a particular day at a set time 38 And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering? 39 Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers. 40 "When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?" 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 Musa said unto them: cast whatsoever ye have to cast. 43 So they cast their ropes and staffs, saying: 'By Pharaoh's might, we shall be the victors' 44 [But] then Moses threw his staff - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 48 Pharaoh said: "You accepted the word of Moses even before I granted you the leave to do so. Surely he is your chief who has taught you magic. Soon shall you come to know. I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and shall crucify all of you." 49 'There is no harm' they replied, 'for surely to our Lord we are turning. 50 We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe." 51
