The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
