So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say, "Wait, I too am waiting with you". 31 Does their reason tell them to say this or is it because they are a rebellious people? 32 Do they say: 'He has invented it' No, they do not believe. 33 Let them produce a scripture like it, if what they say is true. 34 Or were they created without there being anything, or are they the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Does God have daughters while you have sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or have they an ilah (a god) other than Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partners (to Him) 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 The unjust will suffer other torments besides this but most of them do not know. 47 And so, await in patience thy Sustainer's judgment, for thou art well within Our sight. And extol thy Sustainer's limitless glory and praise whenever thou risest up, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
