He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way - this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain - how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one - he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
