The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
