He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
