A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
