Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Travailing, worn. 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 cushions ranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
