The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
