Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
