Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
