Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 From the guilty. 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
