The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
