The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
