Is it not a lesson for the successors of the past generations that had We wanted, We could have punished them for their sins, sealed their hearts and deprived them of hearing? 100 These towns-- We relate to you some of their stories, and certainly their apostles came to them with clear arguments, but they would not believe in what they rejected at first; thus does Allah set a seal over the hearts of the unbelievers 101 We did not find many among them keeping their promises. However, We did find many evil-doers among them. 102 Then, after them, We sent Moses with our tokens unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they repelled them. Now, see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters! 103 Moses said: 'Pharaoh, I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Worlds, 104 "I am duty bound to speak nothing of God but the truth I have brought from your Lord a clear sign; so let the people of Israel depart with me." 105 Said he, 'If thou hast brought a sign, produce it, if thou speakest truly.' 106 So he cast his staff; and behold, it was a serpent manifest. 107 Then he uncovered his hand and it appeared sheer white to the onlookers. 108
