He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
