He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
