The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
