And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
