Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
