The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they differ? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
