Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
