The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
