The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 and believes in the finest, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
