The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
