The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), 2 And who glide with ease. 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 And those who govern the event, 5 The day on which the quaking one shall quake, 6 and the second blast follows it, 7 Hearts on that Day will be throbbing; 8 and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 And they will wake up suddenly. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 "Tell him 'Do you have the inclination to become pure?' 18 that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)." 19 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 and then he gathered [his great ones,] and called [unto his people,] 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear the consequences. 26
