The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
