He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
