۞ It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." 189 But when He gave unto them aright, they ascribed unto Him partners in respect of that which He had given them. High is He Exalted above all that they associate (with Him). 190 Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created? 191 and neither are able to give them succour nor can succour themselves, 192 And if you call them to true guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you call them to true guidance or keep silent. 193 Those whom you (pagans) worship besides God, are themselves servants just like yourselves. If your claim was true, they should answer your prayers. 194 Do they have feet to walk on, or hands to hold with, or eyes to see and ears to hear with? Say to them: "Call your compeers, and work out a plot against me, and do not give me time. 195 My guardian is Allah Who has revealed the Book, and it is He Who protects the righteous. 196 "But those ye call upon besides Him, are unable to help you, and indeed to help themselves." 197 If you call them to the guidance they do not hear; and thou seest them looking at thee, unperceiving. 198 Use thou indulgence and enjoin seemliness and turn away from the ignorant. 199 And if there prompt thee a prompting from the Satan, seek refuge with Allah; verily He is Hearing, Knowing. 200 When any evil suggestion from Satan touches those who fear God, they are instantly alerted and become watchful; 201 and their brothers they lead on into error, then they stop not short. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace, so that you may receive mercy. 204 Remember thy Lord in thy soul, humbly and fearfully, not loud of voice, at morn and eventide. Be not thou among the heedless. 205 Those who are near to thy Lord, disdain not to do Him worship: They celebrate His praises, and prostrate before Him. ۩ 206
