The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Save worshippers. 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
