The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
