The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
