Al-Baqarah 6 of 40
O children of Israel! Remember those blessings of Mine with which I graced you, and how I favoured you above all other people; 47 And fear the Day (of Resurrection) when no soul will be exchanged for another, nor will any intercession be accepted for the disbelievers, nor will they be set free in lieu of compensation nor will they be helped. 48 And when We delivered you from Firon's people, who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your Lord. 49 and when We divided the sea for you and saved you and drowned Pharaoh's people, while you looked on. 50 And when We appointed with Moses forty nights then you took to yourselves the Calf after him and you were evildoers; 51 Even then We did forgive you; there was a chance for you to be grateful. 52 We gave Moses the Book and the criteria (of discerning right from wrong) so that perhaps you would be rightly guided. 53 Moses said to his people, "My people, you have done wrong to yourselves by worshipping the calf. Seek pardon from your Lord and slay yourselves." He told them that it would be best for them in the sight of their Lord, Who would forgive them, for He is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 54 Remember, when you said to Moses: "We shall not believe in you until we see God face to face," lightning struck you as you looked. 55 Then We raised you up after your death: Ye had the chance to be grateful. 56 We caused the clouds to cast their shadow over you and sent down for you manna and quails, (saying:) 'Eat of the good things We have provided you. 'Indeed, they did not harm Us, but they harmed themselves. 57 And when We said, “Enter this town and eat freely from what is in it, and enter the gate whilst prostrating, and say, ‘May our sins be forgiven’ – We will forgive you your sins; and We will soon increase the reward for the righteous.” 58 But the harmdoers tampered with Our Words, different from that said to them, and We let loose on the harmdoers a scourge from heaven as a punishment for their debauchery. 59
