The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 shall call for destruction 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
