And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
