The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
