Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth- 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 We never destroyed any town without first sending to them warning and guidance. 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And warn thy tribe of near kindred, 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 and place thy trust in the Almighty, the Dispenser of Grace, 217 who sees thee when thou standest [alone,] 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 Poets are followed by the perverse. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 preaching what they do not practice. 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
