Then, when you [Israelites] killed someone and started to blame one another, God brought to light what you concealed, 72 We therefore said, “Strike the dead man with a part of the sacrificed cow”; this is how Allah will bring the dead to life, and shows you His signs so that you may understand! 73 Then your hearts became hardened thereafter and are like stones, or even yet harder; for there are stones from which rivers come gushing, and others split, so that water issues from them, and others crash down in the fear of God. And God is not heedless of the things you do. 74 ۞ Do you then hope that they would believe in you, and a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Allah, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know (this). 75 For when they meet the faithful, they say: "We believe;" but when among themselves, they say: "Why do you tell them what the Lord has revealed to you? They will only dispute it in the presence of your Lord. Have you no sense indeed?" 76 Do they really not know that Allah is fully aware of what they hide and what they disclose? 77 And there are among them illiterates, who know not the Book, but (see therein their own) desires, and they do nothing but conjecture. 78 Therefore woe is to those who write the Book with their hands; and they then claim, “This is from Allah” in order to gain an abject (worldly) price for it; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn with it. 79 And they (Jews) say, "The Fire (i.e. Hell-fire on the Day of Resurrection) shall not touch us but for a few numbered days." Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him to them): "Have you taken a covenant from Allah, so that Allah will not break His Covenant? Or is it that you say of Allah what you know not?" 80 Yea! Those who earn evil and by their sinfulness are engulfed - they are destined for the fire, therein to abide; 81 whereas those who attain to faith and do righteous deeds - they are destined for paradise, therein to abide. 82
