A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim Sad. 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 (Saying): Follow that which is sent down unto you from your Lord, and follow no protecting friends beside Him. Little do ye recollect! 3 And how many a township We have destroyed, upon them Our violence came at night or while they were taking their midday rest. 4 And when Our punishment came upon them, they had nothing to say for themselves, and could only cry, "Verily, we were wrongdoers!" 5 Most certainly then We will question those to whom (the apostles) were sent, and most certainly We will also question the apostles; 6 And verily, We shall recount their whole story with knowledge, for We were never absent (at any time or place). 7 On that Day, the weighing is true. He whose scales are heavy those are the prosperers, 8 and those whose scales are light will be the losers, for they, are the ones who have been unjust to Our signs. 9 We established you in the land and provided you with a means of livelihood there: yet you are seldom thankful. 10
