And We sent Saleh to the tribe of Thamud, from their own community; he said, “O my people! Worship Allah – you do not have any God except Him; indeed a clear proof has come to you from your Lord; this is Allah’s she-camel – a sign for you – so leave her free to feed in Allah’s earth, and do not touch her with evil intentions for a painful punishment will seize you.” 73 Recall (the time) when We settled you in the land as the heirs of the tribe of Ad and how you established mansions in the plains and carved homes out of the mountains. Give thanks to God for His favors and do not commit evil in the land." 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were arrogant answered: "We do not believe in what you believe." 76 (Then) they hamstrung the shecamel and defied the order of their Lord, saying to Salih: 'Bring down that which you have promised us if you truly are one of the Messengers' 77 Then the earthquake overtook them, so they became motionless bodies in their abode. 78 Then he turned from them, and said: O my people! Assuredly I delivered unto you the messages of my Lord, and counselled you good, but ye approve not the good counsellors. 79 AND [remember] Lot, when he said unto his people: "Will you commit abominations such as none in all the world has ever done before you? 80 "For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds." 81 And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!" 82 And We rescued him and his household, save his wife, who was of those who stayed behind. 83 We sent a torrential rain unto the (unbelievers). Consider how disastrous the end of the criminals was! 84
