We sent to Thamud their brother Saleh. "O you people," said he, "worship God, for you have no other god but He. Clear proof has come to you already from your Lord, and this she-camel of God is the token for you. Leave her free to graze upon God's earth, and do not molest her lest a grievous punishment should befall you. 73 And remember when He made you successors after the 'Aad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allah and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption." 74 The haughty elders of his people said to those believers who had been oppressed: 'Do you know that Salih is one sent forth with a message from his Lord?' They, replied: 'Surely we believe in the message with which he has been sent.' 75 The proud ones said, “We deny what you have believed in.” 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers." 77 Suddenly, an earthquake jolted them and they were left motionless in their homes. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? 80 Lo! ye come with lust unto men instead of women. Nay, but ye are wanton folk. 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers]. 83 the while We rained a rain [of destruction] upon the others: and behold what happened in the end to those people lost in sin! 84
