We sent Salih to his brethren, the tribe of Thamud, who told them, "Worship God your only Lord. Authoritative evidence has come to you from your Lord and this she-camel is the evidence for you from God. Let her graze in the land of God. Do not give her any trouble lest a painful torment will strike you. 73 And remember when He made you successors after Ad and settled you in the land-- you make mansions on its plains and hew out houses in the mountains-- remember therefore Allah's benefits and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief. 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 The Arrogant party said: "For our part, we reject what ye believe in." 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers." 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them in their habitation fallen prostrate. 78 He left them, saying, "My people, I delivered my Lord's messages to you and counselled you sincerely, but you do not like sincere advisors." 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 You lust after men rather than women! You transgress all bounds!" 81 The only answer of his nation was: 'Expel them from your village. They are people who keep themselves purified' 82 So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers]. 83 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals. 84
